MG 403: Accounting and Finance

Professor when you took the course: Prof. Varadraj Bapat (First Half) & Prof. S.N. Rao (Second Half)

Motivation: The course deals with basic accounting principles and regulations in the first half, and financial management in the second half.

Feedback on lectures:

The classes under Varadraj Sir are interesting but the amount of content covered is minimal. I had taken the course with the intent of learning basic accounting principles but found that what I learnt in the first half of the course could have been learnt in one online course in a day. Some of the content might surprise you like a question in the midsem about the meaning of a sanskrit verse by Chanakya.

The second half of the course is interesting and engaging. We had a project where we had to trade virtually in the stock market for a profit. That was a nice addition to the course. The professor is strict but the content being interesting makes up for it.

Attendance Policy: A strict 80%, with students told to drop the course after 5 missed classes, since they would anyways get a DX.

Grading: Average grading. The final distribution of marks is very close and there can be a lot of fluctuation.

We thank “Anvay Varerkar” for the course review.
